The Most Commonly Asked Questions About PDR

Published On: April 1, 2020

One of the services we’re most frequently asked about at Bumper Buddies is paintless dent repair (PDR). For most Phoenix car owners who are accustomed to leaving their car at a body shop for days on end, PDR seems too good to be true. But PDR isn’t just a catchy acronym; it’s a genuine method of quick, convenient, and effective dent repair that we often use in our mobile dent repair service.

What is PDR?

Paintless dent repair is a set of methods used to remove dents and dings from a car’s bumper and body panels. These methods can only be used if the damage hasn’t affected the car’s paint job at all, however. PDR is most often used to repair damage from hail storms, minor automotive collisions, and small incidents such as someone opening their door into yours or a rogue shopping cart hitting your vehicle.

Should I get PDR?

We certainly think so! Any dents or dings in your car’s bumper will negatively affect its resale value, and they can even cause further damage to your vehicle in the future if you get into another accident. If you get in an accident later down the line and your insurance provider discovers you had an existing dent in your car, they may decide that your dent contributed to your automobile’s damage. This can sometimes lead to your insurance provider denying your claim. Beyond that, dents are unsightly and can project a sloppy image for yourself and your vehicle.

Is PDR quick to perform?

Dent removal is a quick process when you work with Bumper Buddies, and PDR is especially fast. With PDR, there’s no need to re-sand or repaint your bumper, which dramatically cuts down on the time it takes to finish repairs. In fact, we complete most PDR repairs in just one or two hours!

Is PDR expensive?

Bumper Buddies prides itself on offering dent repair services at affordable rates, and we’re happy to say that PDR is no different. The cost will vary depending on the size and accessibility of the dent, but Bumper Buddies will cost you far less than a conventional body shop for the same repairs.  Our paintless dent repair services cost just $150 to $250 on average, ensuring that you don’t just save time, but money as well! Visit our Yelp page, and you’ll see customers raving about the incredibly low rates we offer in conjunction with incredible service.

How does Bumper Buddies perform PDR?

Our trained technicians use a wide variety of dent removal methods depending on the size of the dent and where it is located on the car’s body. One of our preferred methods for PDR is accessing the body panel from the back by removing the necessary interior panels. Once we have access, we can massage the dent back into the original shape with our hands or specialized steel rods. If we can’t access the back of the panel, one alternative is to attach glue tabs to the dent and slowly ease it back into the proper shape with a special pulling tool. No matter what method we use, your car’s paint job won’t be affected. By removing the need to re-sand and repaint your bumper, we keep our work fast and our costs low, allowing us to pass those savings on to you.

Can I perform PDR myself?

Unless you’re a trained technician, we wouldn’t recommend it. Trying to remove a dent yourself, even a small one, could end up damaging your car’s paint job or cracking your panel or bumper. Once this happens, you’ll have no choice but to take it to a professional dent repair service. Any additional damage you accidentally inflicted will also dramatically increase your repair costs, so save yourself time and money by trusting the PDR experts at Bumper Buddies.
