Paint Techniques for Dent Repair

Published On: November 29, 2018

When it comes to traditional dent repairs, an essential part for us is to make sure the paint looks good. Unlike paintless dent removal or PDR, traditional repairs require spray painting the damaged area. Here at Bumper Buddies, we want our client’s car to look like new by the time we’re done working on it. Here’s a look into how we get the job done right!

Step One: Isolate the Damaged Area

After our technicians have pulled out the dent, they will begin the painting process. If possible, they will remove the bumper or panel to avoid over spraying areas that don’t need paint. If for some reason they can’t remove the bumper or panel, they will carefully tape off the section.

Step Two: Prep the Surface

Preparing the surface is essential to ensure that the paint is applied on smoothly. Our technicians will sand down the area and smooth out any imperfections. The more time spent in prepping the surface, the easier painting the car will be.

Step Three: Time to Paint

Using computer technology to find our client’s car color, we mix the paint with thinners to make the perfect match. Our technicians will then lightly apply one coat of paint onto the car and wait for it to dry. On average, each coat of paint takes about 15 to 20 minutes to dry, and we do as many coats as needed per repair.

Step Four: Get Your Approval

Once the work has been completed, our technicians will walk the customer through the details of the repair to ensure the customer is satisfied with the work done and answer any aftercare questions. Bumper Buddies takes pride in our customers’ satisfaction.

Step Five: Wait to Drive, Wash, and Wax

Once the painting process has been completed, we ask our customers not to drive their car for an hour. This time is needed to allow the paint to cure completely. We recommend waiting 72 hours before washing the car and 30 days before waxing.

Whether your car needs a dent repair or paintless dent removal, give us a call! Our team will make sure your car looks brand new again. Bumper Buddies is proudly serving and meeting our customers wherever they may be, in South Bay or Orange County. You can reach us at (888) 711-5074.
