The Process of Dent Repair

Published On: March 15, 2019

The stop-and-go traffic of Manhattan Beach makes small accidents a common occurrence, and their resulting bumper dents, an all-too-common event. Here at Bumper Buddies, we’ve mastered the art of bumper dent repairs, from paintless dent repair (PDR) to the traditional scratched-paint variety. Our mobile dent repair service will ensure that any dents received on the commute to work will be as good as new by your commute home, our dent repair services take as little as an hour to complete. Here’s a short guide to our dent removal process, and what you can expect from Bumper Buddies the next time you need us:

Step 1: Prep

We prep the area for treatment by thoroughly cleaning it of any dust or debris. We assess whether the repair will be a traditional dent repair or a paintless dent repair (PDR). If the latter, the repair process will be complete after step two.

Step 2: Heat Treat

Once the area has been cleaned sufficiently, the dent is treated with a heat gun. Administering this heat to the bumper will help it form back to its original shape, slowly removing the dent.

Step 3: Body Filler

If the dent does not completely remold after treatment, we use a body filler to make sure that the damaged area is smoothed out and has an even finish.

Step 4: Sand & Prime

Once the filler has taken 20 or 30 minutes to completely dry, the area where the dent occurs will be sanded down to create a smooth surface for the paint primer. The primer will help the paint adhere to the bumper.

Step 5: Paint

Once the primer has dried, the area will be painted over. At Bumper Buddies, we use computer-match PPG paint to ensure a 100% color match. This ensures that your bumper will look entirely new and seamless, with no unsightly discoloration or patches.

Step 6: Clear Coat

Our final step is to apply a glossy clear coat that will enhance the paint and ensure that the damaged area is protected after the mobile dent repair is finished.
